Adding Wall Decals to Completely Change a Room’s Style
DRAMATIC CHANGE by adding wall decals

I’m so excited to share this sweet room! This once a drab office space, has now transformed into a little girls dream haven. My two lovely ladies were helpers in the design process… it was so fun to have them help pick out all of the supplies and watch their styles to come to life. The room is now feminine, whimsical and a little bold, just like their sweet souls.
WALLPAPER SOURCE
I’ve partnered with Rocky Mountain Decals on this project and couldn’t be more happy with this beautiful floral “wall decal”. It’s different than normal wall paper in a few ways.
- It’s peel and stick.
- It’s removable and reusable.
Rock Mountain Decals makes extremely high quality wall fabric and their designs were endless. We chose the Annabelle Style… the girls and I decided we wanted a large vintage floral wall print. We wanted it to be bold, delicate and beautiful.
The girls are over the moon about their new play room…
HOW TO APPLY
My husband and I did this one half wall installation in about 1 hour. It is definitely a two-person job, but really was simple and easy to follow. Rocky Mountain Decals does a fabulous job of supplying instructions and the tools needed. You just need to find a willing partner for the job.
A few notes:
- Our wall is about 15 feet wide and 4.25 feet tall (space above the wood work). So, about 180″ by 51″.
- The panels come in 23.5″ widths with the height options of 48″, 60″, 72″, 84″, 96″, 108″ and 120″. You can do a half wall (4 feet) or a wall up to 10 feet high. Lots of options!
- We ordered 8 sheets of 23.5″ by 60″. Cost was $44 each sheet, adding up to about $370 total including shipping.
- We had about 9″ left over from each of the 8 sheets that the girls used for crafts galore. This was a highlight!
Once the first sheet is laid, it gets easier and easier. You just line up the new sheet left side with the already applied sheet’s right side.
When you are done laying all of your sheets, you can go back through and trim the bottoms.
We used the plastic tool (for getting bubbles out) and we ran it to the bottom where the decal meets the wood work… we used the edge of the plastic along with a sharp X-Acto knife to cut a straight line at the bottom. This worked great!
Pro tip…
When we started the first sheet, we just lined the top of the sheet up with the top of the wall where it hits the crown moulding. In hindsight, it would’ve been best to do a 1in overlap on top (over the crown) and then come back and cut the top with the X-Acto knife the same way we cut the bottom. Our crown moulding raised about 1/8 of an inch in the middle, so it made it a little complicated to get everything squared up.
STYLED DETAILS
I love creating a functional and beautiful place all in one. Here is how I incorporate that idea for this space.
- We replaced the ceiling mount office light with this rustic farmhouse light. I chose a vintage Edison styled bulb, creating a warm glow. Link is here
- The chair swing! This was a MUST have for the girls. They love this reading nook and the swing is the perfect addition. Even in the small room, this swing adds so much life. Link is here
- Styled bookshelf. This bookshelf at first was daunting. Large and many open shelves and I didn’t want to break the bank filling it up. I first shopped our house.
- I used old books and tore the covers off, found sentiments, pillows, stuffies & pictures to fill shelves.
- I tweaked some home items to fit this space, for example I spray painted a picture frame candy pink to give a child like feel.
- I added some of the girls artwork, that is my favorite for sure and they love seeing it up there!
- Lastly, I purchased a couple of faux succulents to add greenery and life.

I now love, love, love this bookshelf!
PS, this is a great spot to change the design for the season… adding/subtracting small elements to make it feel seasonal.

- Toy storage…I used baskets and the inside cupboards of the bookshelf. This room is the first room you see when you enter our home, so I wanted to make sure everything had a spot to be returned to without becoming cluttered or overly disorganized space. We all know that feeling and systems can keep the sanity.

INSPIRATION
I hope you feel inspired to add some life to a wall in your home. It doesn’t take much for wallpaper to make a space come alive. And the best part is these wall coverings are removable and reusable… Best. Idea. Ever. Thank you Rocky Mountain Decals for partnering with me on this project. 😊

Thanks for reading along friends,
XOXO
