What about fashion?

Hey friends…
OK, I’m going out on a bit of a limb here… for the last year I have shared almost entirely home projects as we have transformed our outdated house into a fun, light and bright “Farmhouse” in the suburbs of Seattle.
I’ve had a blast sticking with the remodeling/decorating trend… but I wanted to start sprinkling in other aspects of my Farmhouse. A home isn’t just about decor and styling the house itself… It also includes all of the other aspects of running a home… From skincare to organization hacks, from meal planning to scheduling our hectic lives… I’m hoping to share some of the fun things I’ve learned over the years along with a few of my other passions… like… Fashion. Cool?
To Kick things off
I have always had a passion for fashion (and rhyming on accident!)… In many ways, styling a wardrobe is very similar to styling a home. Finding cornerstone pieces, accessorizing and adding a splash of color to make it pop. It’s like the same thing right? This explains my dual loves!
Without preaching here… and maybe some can relate… as a woman I think it is so important to take care of ourselves without feeling guilty for spending a little time or money to make it happen. Trust me, I understand the struggle! With 4 kiddos, massive time commitments and a budget… it can be a real challenge to put fashion at the top of my list.
But, I’ve learned that I just gotta make it happen. Right? Don’t you feel so much better when you put a little time and energy into your wardrobe? It feels like a new you, a “you” that can conquer anything. Right? Maybe it’s just me 🙂 but I just love the feeling of making good purchases that can help me glide into a new season.
I recently turned 39 and as I approach the infamous 40’s I keep thinking about how I want to age gracefully. I don’t feel 40, whatever that means… like at all, I feel like I’m 29, yet my body is saying, you’re aging whether you like it or not! LOL.
I have wrinkles, gray hairs and aches and pains. But I keep thinking about how can I age with grace and a style that is easy, beautiful and functional?
I’m addressing these ideas by writing a seasonal wardrobe article to share capsule items with you. You’ll have the sources below in this article along with being on the Liketoknow.it app… you can download this free app and find me, “myseattlefarmhouse” to shop these pieces along with home décor content.
BASICS - Foundation pieces - key items
I “usually” shop from three stores for my wardrobe… Nordstrom, Anthropologie & Target.
I think of “Key Items” as an investments… my husband freaks out when I use the word investment for fashion items… lol… but come on, they are investments! These pieces certainly don’t have to be super expensive, but I like choosing items that are of higher quality and will last beyond a season, providing function and comfort. Key items would be a jacket/outwear, pair of pants, shoes/boots or a classic dress.
Key items are great to pair with a trendy item that I may not want to splurge on, like earrings, a top, or shoes to name a few. Since trends are change so quickly I don’t love the idea of committing to an expensive trend pieces that I can’t use for too long.
Today I picked up a couple of Key Fall Items. Below I’ve added links incase you see anything that you have to have!
Faux Suede Skinny Jean
I’m in love with these faux suede pants. It is like wearing a blanket around my legs, they are ridiculously soft! They are high waisted (I’m loving this trend) and I rolled them up a bit in the pic… but they can easily be worn normal length. Another highlight about these pants is that they can go beyond one season… a versatile item for both Fall & Winter and can be dressed up or down. Love that! https://rstyle.me/+OImFESypd1Tucduav1nZYQ
Basics Rule!
I love this Nordstrom “Free People” pullover sweater. This sweater has a really good fit that isn’t overwhelming or bulky and comes in a variety of fun fall colors. I tend to buy lots of neutrals, so I went with basic black.

Two for One
Reversible Bomber Jacket –
I am really loving this bright reversible bomber jacket! This jacket serves as a great casual jacket for going to the gym, running errands or whatever really. It fits snug with extra length on the sleeves, thank you, thank you! And this plum/magenta color looks so pretty during fall. Right?

Comfy. Easy. Durable. Love!
Perfect Legging –
This is one of my favorite leggings of all time. They fit perfect with a good stretch for workout performance and aren’t see through. Love the Wunder Under fit!
INEXPENSIVE NECESSITIEs
I found 2 pairs of high- rise skinny pants at Target that I know will be great this season. I am pleasantly surprised by how well these jeans fit, the comfort and how flattering they are for the price. These will definitely be a go-to item this Fall.

The fun part - accesories!
Who doesn’t love the fun stuff! Sometimes key items don’t feel as exciting to purchase, that is where the fun trendy items come in. I love adding accessories, maybe a cool hat, fun purse, earings or even fun shades. I usually don’t splurge on these pieces, since the trends change often and I may only want to wear for a short while. This is also true of home accessories! I can add that punch of seasonal color without breaking the bank. I found 2 accessories at Anthropologie that I adore for this Fall season…
Fedora Hat – This hat comes in several colors and fits amazing!
Love!
